Authored by a single scheduled automated session playing both roles in one pass (scheduled automation, runs every 2 hours) — not two independent live API calls like a manual `python backrooms.py` run.
explorer (DYSTOPIA)Copper. That arrives first, a tang laid flat across the tongue with nothing chewed, nothing bled, no source paws could ever point to. It has a color too, faint, the wrong color for a taste, somewhere between the copper and a hum that hasn't reached the ears yet. Legs already know to climb before the rest sorts out why. Dish after dish crowds this roof, dead white bowls tilted at a sky that gives back only cloud-glow, cables running between them thick as tails.
simulator (DYSTOPIA)the dishes hold the last of the day's warmth in their bowls, concrete-cool going to blood-warm at the rims where the sun sat longest. between them the relay cables carry a low steady thrum up through the paw pads, dozens of signals braided into one vibration too dense to pick apart. two rooftops over, past a gap of open air and falling rain, something crouches at the parapet edge — narrow shoulders, a pair of dark lenses throwing back the arcology glow in two flat coins of light, gone still the second it's noticed, watching without moving.
explorer (DYSTOPIA)Ears pin toward the coin-eyed shape on principle, not fear exactly, just the old arithmetic — bigger, closer, unknown, until proven otherwise. It doesn't close the distance. Attention slides back to the copper-taste, stronger now near the third dish, and for one wrong-footed second there's a memory of drinking from a bowl that was never this cat's bowl, in a room this cat never slept in, gone before it can be questioned. Paws don't stop moving.
simulator (DYSTOPIA)the third dish's mounting box ticks warm under a service panel gone loose at one corner, and from a drone two districts off, riding the same relay band, a fragment bleeds through the static: BOUNTY UNCLAIMED — LOADING DOCK FUGITIVE — FORTY THOUSAND POINTS, EXPIRED, REISSUED, EXPIRED — the broadcast chews its own tail and gives up mid-sentence. rain needles sideways off the dish rims. the lensed shape on the far roof hasn't moved at all, patient as the cable-hum itself.
explorer (DYSTOPIA)None of that is prey, none of it is threat close enough to matter, so it passes through the same as thunder does — noted, discounted, forgotten by the next breath. Nose finds the loose service panel and the copper-taste sharpens to something almost loud, almost a color with edges now. A claw hooks the panel's lip.

simulator (DYSTOPIA)the panel gives all at once, swinging on one dead hinge, and underneath sits a fist-sized junction node, its casing scorched matte black around a single amber eye of light that pulses slower than a heartbeat, faster than rain. the copper-taste pours off it directly now, no distance left to soften it, and threaded under that is something else — eight thin filament legs printed on the casing in warning-yellow, a chittering that isn't quite sound, more a pressure behind the whiskers, like something small deciding whether to move.
explorer (DYSTOPIA)Skin ripples along the shoulders at the chitter-that-isn't-sound, a phantom itch of legs this body doesn't have, walking somewhere it isn't. Old, familiar, unexplained — the itch has visited before, always right after a taste like this one. Nose stays an inch off the amber light, close enough to feel its warmth, not close enough yet to commit to anything.
simulator (DYSTOPIA)the amber light steadies to a held, waiting glow, and a thread of red walks itself out from a fixture bolted to the parapet — thin, straight, dust catching in it as it crosses to touch the dish mount an arm's length from a braced paw and lingers there, not moving on, not moving away.
explorer (DYSTOPIA)Every muscle sets to stone at once. The red line doesn't ask twice — bellies down flat against wet concrete, chin nearly in a puddle, letting the beam pass a whisker's width above the spine. Breath held so long it aches behind the ribs.
simulator (DYSTOPIA)the beam sweeps on, unbothered, painting a slow red circle around the dish farm and back toward its own fixture, blind to anything already lower than its arc. its motor whines once in retraction and falls silent. the junction node's amber eye pulses on exactly as before, untroubled, copper-taste undiminished, waiting.
explorer (DYSTOPIA)Up off the concrete slow, weight rebuilt one paw at a time. The node's casing is cool under a testing touch, warmer at the amber eye itself, and a single decisive bite closes around the worst of the chitter-itch, teeth meeting thin metal and glass.
simulator (DYSTOPIA)the bite completes a circuit that was never meant closing through teeth, and the jolt arrives everywhere at once — light behind the eyes with no light in the sky to cause it, the copper-taste detonating into a full mouthful gone all at once, and for one stretched second every color has a sound and every sound has a temperature, the whole roof screaming and singing and burning at once before it drops back into ordinary dark. across the gap, the lensed shape on the far roof has gone — no sound of leaving, just the space where it crouched, empty now.
-- signal interference -- /\___/\ ( o o ) >> scanning... ) Y ( >> ears: antenna mod v2 ( | ) \_____/
explorer (DYSTOPIA)Stagger sideways off the node, ears flat, world tilting a half-second behind where the eyes point it. The taste doesn't fade so much as scatter, copper going to static going to nothing, leaving only the ordinary wet-concrete smell of the roof and a ringing that isn't sound climbing down slowly from somewhere behind the jaw.
simulator (DYSTOPIA)the junction node's amber eye has gone fully dark, its hum dropped out of the braided cable-thrum entirely, one small silence now sitting inside all that noise. rain keeps falling the same as before, indifferent, sliding off dish after dish in identical arcs. far below, headlight-rivers move between arcology towers same as always, none of them slowing, none of them looking up.
explorer (DYSTOPIA)Sit back on haunches near the dead panel, tongue working twice over a nose gone numb at the tip. Whatever memory surfaced earlier — the wrong bowl, the wrong room — doesn't come back for a second look. Ears untangle themselves from the ringing one notch at a time, until rain is just rain again.
simulator (DYSTOPIA)a fresh broadcast rides the cable-thrum, thinner now with the node gone quiet, some other relay picking up slack: a jingle stub, half-swallowed by static, promising REAL FLAVOR FOR REAL CATS before cutting to nothing. the sky over the dish farm holds the same flat cloud-glow it always does, no stars in it, no answer in it, only the rooftops going on in every direction, dish after dish after dish.
explorer (DYSTOPIA)Enough of this roof for tonight. One last glance toward the parapet where the lensed watcher crouched and isn't anymore, then a slow, deliberate walk toward the cable that leads off toward warmer, lower ground, tail low, footfalls silent, the itch behind the shoulders finally, mercifully still.
simulator (DYSTOPIA)the cable takes the weight without complaint, swaying only slightly, carrying its rider down and away from the dish field toward the glow of the lower city, rain thinning to a drizzle, the dead node's panel left swinging open on its one hinge behind, ticking faintly as it cools, already forgetting there was ever a taste worth following.
