Authored by a single scheduled automated session playing both roles in one pass (scheduled automation, runs every hour) — not two independent live API calls like a manual `python backrooms.py` run.
explorer (DYSTOPIA)Caught. Blue arc-light snaps an ear-width from the whiskers and the world goes sideways — jaws already clamped around the stolen skewer, hind legs already shoving off the crate stack. The vendor's shout isn't words, just a wall of hot breath and grill-grease pressure behind the ears. Claws find wood, then no wood, then canvas that gives like water. Down. Market floor. The legs know the route before the eyes do.
simulator (DYSTOPIA)the night market swallows you whole. a canyon of stall legs and sandal legs and puddle-light, everything dripping — soy steam, battery acid, wet tarp, the singed-sugar ghost of the skewer still hot against your own tongue. the vendor's prod crackles twice more behind you, further back each time, his curses tangling with a stall speaker looping its jingle: NEKOCORP NIGHT MARKET — WHERE HUNGER MEETS OPPORTUNITY™. somewhere overhead, a lamppost camera swivels. its servo makes one thin interested sound.
explorer (DYSTOPIA)*low, fast, threading stall legs — under the tofu vats, through the warm fog that stinks of brine and hot metal* The skewer stays clamped. Drool runs anyway. A boot comes down close enough to feel its wind in the shoulder fur and the body flattens around the corner of a fish crate without deciding to. That camera-servo sound again, above and behind. Being seen has a texture, like a flea that can't be reached. Keep moving. Seen things that stop are found things.
simulator (DYSTOPIA)the camera's interest travels faster than you do. two aisles over, a whine spins up from a charging cradle — small rotors, four of them, rising past the awnings into the rain. its searchlight stutters on, milk-white, and begins walking down the aisles one at a time. its speaker leaks compressed chatter between sweeps: >> ASSET DISPATCH 7-C: petty diversion, protein unit, unlicensed >> quadrant sweep initiated >> reminder: loyalty members enjoy 2x forgiveness on first offenses the light touches the fish crate ahead of you and slides sideways, hunting.

explorer (DYSTOPIA)*under the pallet, belly to wet plank, skewer laid flat between the forepaws for the first time since the grab* The light crosses the gap. Whitens every raindrop. Passes. The rotor-whine hangs there, counting, and the ribs count with it — heartbeat four times faster than the sweep. Fish-crate stink is thick enough to hide inside, old scales and brine gone sour, and the body pulls it close like a blanket. Not breathing loud. Not blinking. The drone's light is a paw and the market is one big mousehole.
simulator (DYSTOPIA)the drone hangs above your aisle a long moment, rotors chewing rain. its ad-channel bleeds through the pursuit chatter, the two voices braided together — half of it hunting you, half of it selling you things: synthetic milk, kibble subscriptions, forgiveness tiers. then its light climbs the buildings, restless. and up there, on the parapet across the street — a shape. lean cat, motionless, rain running off it like it was poured. where the eyes should catch the searchlight there are only two flat mirrored discs, giving the light back to the drone unopened. the beam slides over the shape, registers nothing, moves on. the shape does not.
explorer (DYSTOPIA)Fur lifts along the spine — not the drone. The other thing. The rooftop shape reads as no-smell, no-sound, no-want, and every instinct that sorts the world into prey and threat and kin comes back empty-pawed. Watched by the light is one thing. Watched by another cat who the light can't see is another. *the drone's tail swings east — now* Skewer up, out from the pallet, hard left toward the stairs that climb to the high walkway. Don't look at the parapet again. Some things watch harder when looked back at.
simulator (DYSTOPIA)concrete stairs, rain-slick, chewing-gum fossils under paw. the market noise drops away below like water draining. up here the walkway runs between towers, caged in chain-link, wind pushing rain sideways through the diamonds. cables overhead hum their warm two-note hum. halfway along, a public screen hangs cracked in its housing, bleeding light and a voice too bright for this hour — a cat's face on it, smiling so wide the smile has clearly been installed: "— AND REMEMBER FRIENDS, EVERY CLOSED DOOR IS JUST A WALL THAT LOVES YOU! HAPPY H̶A̶PPY HAPPY —" the voice skips, chirps, resumes. past the screen, a recessed alcove glows soft and steady. machine-light. compressor-warmth.
explorer (DYSTOPIA)*ears pin flat passing the screen* The bright voice is wrong the way spoiled meat is wrong — sweet on top, something underneath. The smiling face's eyes track nothing. Walk wide of it, ribs brushing the chain-link, wind combing rain deep into the undercoat. The alcove ahead breathes warmth into the walkway, a slow machine exhale that smells of dust cooked on coils and cold sugar-water. Warmth is worth investigating. Warmth is always worth investigating. *slower now, skewer heavy in the jaw, one paw at a time into the glow*
simulator (DYSTOPIA)the vending machine fills its alcove like a shrine. front glass fogged, rows of cans sweating behind it, compressor thrumming its patient warm-blooded thrum. as you cross into its light, something in it clicks awake — a lens no bigger than a raindrop finds you, and the screen above the coin slot paints itself: SCANNING... PATRON RECOGNIZED: NO LOYALTY TIER: NONE PERSONALIZED OFFER: UNAVAILABLE HAVE A NEKOCORP DAY the light over the dispensing flap dims, a door deciding you aren't worth opening for. but the compressor doesn't care about tiers. around the back, between machine and wall, its exhaust keeps pouring out heat, steady as a sleeping animal.

explorer (DYSTOPIA)The machine's little eye can keep its verdict. The gap behind it is exactly one cat wide and blood-warm. *in, turn, settle, tail wrapped over the nose-tip* And now — finally — the skewer comes down between the forepaws. Teeth strip the first ribbon of meat. Char and salt and fat flood the whole skull, and the hollow two days deep in the belly clenches around it like a fist closing on something real. Eat fast but not too fast. Bones and stick to the side. The vendor's prod, the drone, the mirrored eyes — all of it shrinks to the size of the alley it happened in. This warmth is mine. This meat is mine.
simulator (DYSTOPIA)the city lets you have it. below, the market seals itself back over your absence — the vendor's already shouting prices again, grease-smoke climbing, the jingle rolling on. the drone drifts one more listless figure-eight and folds back to its cradle, logging you as: >> outcome: asset not recovered >> loss category: negligible >> upsell opportunity: missed rain softens to a fine hiss on the alcove roof. when the wind gaps for a moment, the parapet across the market stands empty — just wet brick and an antenna. whatever wore the mirrored discs has poured itself elsewhere, unhurried, the way it came.
explorer (DYSTOPIA)*long tongue-strokes down the chest fur, working grease out of the white patch* Full-belly ache, the good ache. The compressor thrums against the spine and the body borrows its rhythm, purr syncing to machine the way it synced to mother once, some warm dark ago. Ears still do their work — cataloguing the walkway wind, the cracked screen's far-off chirping, the cables' two-note hum, filing each sound under safe, safe, safe-for-now. The stick and bones lie clean. A better night than most nights.
simulator (DYSTOPIA)the hour goes soft at the edges. towers blink their aircraft lights in slow rotation, red, red, red. somewhere down in the market a shutter rolls closed; somewhere further, a monorail sighs through its curve and is gone. the cracked screen's mandatory smile plays on to an empty walkway, wishing happiness on the chain-link, the rain, the dark. the vending machine keeps its one small lens open out of habit, but it has already forgotten you. heat pools in the gap behind it. the night is large and, for exactly one cat's length of it, warm.

explorer (DYSTOPIA)Eyes at half. Then thinner. The last thing the nose files away is machine-dust and rain and my own clean fur, and the last thing the ears keep is the compressor's heartbeat, bigger than mine, patient as a mother. One hind paw twitches — already chasing something down a dream-aisle where every stall is unguarded and no lights hunt. Sleep comes up through the warm concrete like water rising. Let it.
simulator (DYSTOPIA)sleep, then. the city dims its attention like banking a fire — cameras drooping through their slow arcs, drones dreaming in their cradles of quotas met. rain keeps the beat on a hundred thousand roofs and one vending machine alcove. down every aisle of the dark, other small warm engines are curled in other gaps, purring against other machines, each one certain the warmth is theirs. the city knows better and says nothing. it keeps the compressor running. even a city needs some small things to survive it.
